Important Recall Info

In case you didn't hear the news today, McNeil Products is involved in a voluntary product recall of Children's Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl.

Please check this link: Medicine Recalls 4/30/10, before you give your kids any of these products.

It seems the dosing of medicine in these items might not meet product standards, therefore, you may be giving the kids too much medicine, or not enough. As will all medical issues, please consult your doctor before changing any dosage or medicine you administer to the kids.

New Crib Recalls

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has just issued another recall on cribs. Please check your cribs (and all other equipment you use) for recalls. These recalls may be issued any time after the product has been sold. You must check these items to make sure a fault hasn't been found on a product you are using.

We always check the items that are brought in for consignment for any recalls, and we STRONGLY urge you to check the items you are still using or pass on to a friend or family member.

Check your recalls here: CPSC website

Today's recalls include some models of SimplicityCribs and Graco Cribs.

Recycle the Cutie Way!

Ok, we all know last week was Earth Day....did you plant a tree? Vow to use less plastic or use a reusable water bottle? If you did, Thank You! All of us working together and doing our little part, will add up to a change.

A quote I have heard recently that I really like is we are all drops of water. Any single drop may not make a huge difference, but when the drops are put together, it can make an ocean!

Consignment can be seen as one of those, "drops of water". One person wearing used clothing, may not make a difference, but together, it can help the environmental movement.

Here are some statistics that caught me off guard recently:
Americans throw out on average, 54 pounds of clothing per year (into the trash!)
The weight of all those clothes thrown out annually is 9 MILLION TONS! (Yes, each year!)
(source: Secondary Materials and Recycled Textile Association)

PS--Have your gotten your Re-Cutie re-usable bag yet?? It is a fabulous raspberry pink color (a bag you can keep your eyes on! Mine currently has all the library books in it, ready to return tomorrow.)

Family Movie Night

Make a date with the kids tonight for a family movie! Tonight at 8pm on NBC they are having a new movie, Secrets of the Mountain, geared towards family being able to watch together! Secrets of the Mountain info, click here.

Yeah NBC!! We need more things we can watch and do as a family. Too many nights my daughter is watching her shows, are we are watching ours. (The few nights I get a chance to watch any tv!)

Pop some corn, get comfy and everyone pile of the couch for a great movie!

Start Planting!

If you haven't started yet, there's still time....time to plant some seeds for this summer's harvest, that is.

My family and I usually start our summer veggie garden around Easter by planting seeds and placing them on the window ledge with full sunlight. I was a couple of days late planting mine this year, but have already gotten several items to start sprouting.

For the cost of soil, or a plant starter kit, some seeds, water, sunshine and your time, you have a great, low-cost start to your summer garden. My family started seeds for 5 kinds of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cilantro, basil, sunflowers, jalapenos, lettuce, etc. My daughter and I diligently check the seedlings moisture levels, rotate them in the sun so they all get a fair share, and wait until the day it will be warm enough to plant them outside.

I always seem to start too many seeds, over-plant my garden, and hopefully end up with a major bounty of crops, but I'm always into the saying of "Nothing exceeds like excess!" Last year we started taking our "extra" crops (not as many as I would like, but there is always this year) to our local food pantry. The pantry loved having fresh veggies to distribute and we felt better sharing our food, sunshine and power of a tiny seed.

Some of the most amazing growth can come from a tiny seed. Plant your seeds, and share your crops with your neighbors, friends and loved ones!
