If you haven't started yet, there's still time....time to plant some seeds for this summer's harvest, that is.
My family and I usually start our summer veggie garden around Easter by planting seeds and placing them on the window ledge with full sunlight. I was a couple of days late planting mine this year, but have already gotten several items to start sprouting.
For the cost of soil, or a plant starter kit, some seeds, water, sunshine and your time, you have a great, low-cost start to your summer garden. My family started seeds for 5 kinds of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cilantro, basil, sunflowers, jalapenos, lettuce, etc. My daughter and I diligently check the seedlings moisture levels, rotate them in the sun so they all get a fair share, and wait until the day it will be warm enough to plant them outside.
I always seem to start too many seeds, over-plant my garden, and hopefully end up with a major bounty of crops, but I'm always into the saying of "Nothing exceeds like excess!" Last year we started taking our "extra" crops (not as many as I would like, but there is always this year) to our local food pantry. The pantry loved having fresh veggies to distribute and we felt better sharing our food, sunshine and power of a tiny seed.
Some of the most amazing growth can come from a tiny seed. Plant your seeds, and share your crops with your neighbors, friends and loved ones!
